Thank for your comments :) Lots of interesting ideas for BOM3! Yes the W is a "cheat", press L to lose. It was for me to test the game quests. I guess I forgot to remove it. Anyway I think BOM2 is ready to launch, I'll remove the cheat once it is officially launched. The game took me over 1 year to make!
steppenwolf: If you prevented some mages from joining the Black Robes, they might still be forced to join later on in the final battle, if you did not deliver cure to those Black Robes who want out.

i found a glitch. if you use the win cheat (ctrl+w) in the tutorial battle, you will get all the points and stuff, but the game will jam up and you will get stuck in the battle screen. another thing, another way for the win cheat, all you have to do is press w in battle. hope this helped.

The problem is not that is intentionally done to enforce the line between good and evil, the problem is that, even if you 'zap the potion before he can raise the flask to his mouth', the guy that wanted to join the Black Robes will be recruited anyway some other time. Btw, I stoped Gravedigger from joining the Black Robes, but the next time I saw him he was one of them, so I killed him, anyway, is that a bug?

Ah, I think there needs to be a confirmation box for saving as well as loading. I just overwrote my favourite save file. T_T
And one more thing. When you recruit for the Black Robes, you can overturn a refusal. On the White Robes, you must accept it. Personally, I think you could just zap the potion before he can raise the flask to his mouth, but perhaps that is intentionally done to enforce the line between good and evil?

When your in a battle and you open a new tab, then go into that tab and press ctrl+w (closes tab) you automatically win the fight.

Dude regeneration screwed my gameplay, I was fighting the clan ledeadrs, I was winning, and he'd use regen. over again every turn, it was impossible to kill him....

There was actually one more issue that I forgot to mention. I think it would be "better" to implement a new equipment system. The way it is now, all items have an effect on your character regardless of quantity. I think it would help to make an RPG feel, or strengthen that tone should others agree that it already exists.

maybe those mages were driven underground by the other mages because their magic was deemed to powerful so they were exiled or killed and in BOM3 they've returned to seek vengeance on the other clans.simply bouncing ideas here

Perhaps some mages branched off from the others, and made their own clans. They could be hated as apostates in BOM3, and that could even make a new plotline. Just a suggestion.

I think that that train of thought is self-limiting. Innovations have to come from somewhere. Perhaps, then, there could be more elements introduced? Of course, you would need a great deal of new ideas. I'm afraid my creativity simply does not stretch that far. I just thought I would throw some new prawns on the barbie, so to speak.

I don't think that the Heaven/Earth Mages is a really good idea, it just doesn't fit with the Water/Fire Mages. Besides, there's the problem of from where did they come from? 'Cause all the Mages in BOM2 were in BOM1.

Hi there, BOM2 lovers abound. I haven't played, nor have I posted, for a long while. I support the Heaven/Earth idea, although Heaven and Earth do not fit with Water and Fire. Maybe in BOM3? By way of clan specials, I have the following ideas.
Heaven: 1. A secondary effect applied on contact that causes the opponent to lose HP in an amount proportional to that of the MP used to cast a spell. This could top off at a 1:2 ratio with an effect count of ten. Another version of this that could cause this affliction directly might be available as a spell in the manner of the Poison Wave. Also, perhaps a vampiric effect that takes a certain percentage of the damge dealt and grants it to the caster as mana. My vision is that the "Heaven" class be offensively based and aligned with the other "Fire" mages.
Earth: By multiplying the cost of a defend spell by an appropriate factor, the bolts are "reinforced" to withstand several bolts; sort of like an array of combined bolts, where power and not quantity determines success or failure. Another spell might be one that allows one to convert unused defensive bolts into offensive ones. As one might guess, this class would be a defense-based one.

I'm glad that the feedback has been taken into account and the issues resolved in such a timely manner. Thank you. I have a suggestion for some new classes. Would a "Heaven" (as in the sky, not a place of divinity) and "Earth" pair work out? From my personal observations, each of the clans is opposed by another. The "Attack" based Fire mages are contested by the those of the Sea, the "Power" based Fire mages by those of the Ice, and the mages of the Blood appear to be opposed by those of the Poison. That is why I think "Heaven" and "Earth" would be acceptable as a pair.

Hi Shuwan, I have found some bugs.
1. Sometimes when computers are nearly out of mana (less than 10), they can cast HA or LA without casting the basic spells;
2. Sometimes when the computer has lower than 20 special points, I cannot cast twice; I found that happened in my defense turn;
3. When I challenged Owleye in the arena, when it is at curse level 3 (my power level is 2), all my bolts become zero-powered already; (luckily I always have AP ;) )
4. I found that freeze attack mana cost is a bit weird, I saw an ice mage freezing my 20+ mana attack with 100+ (Silverkin in mage contest and Freezebone in arena at least); I also saw corruptor using paralyze at the cost of 1 mana;
5. Suggestions: I always cheat by keeeping a lot of points unspent right after the young mage contest, so that I could play with the low level mages in arena and increase my BoM ranking quickly (low lvl ones are by far easier to beat with). I would suggest either way to stop the cheat if necessary:
i) Level of mage in arena matches points unspent of player + level of player;
ii) Level of mage in arena increases with the ranking of BoM of player, but it will make the game more inflexible, in my opinion;
6) Suggestions: If players can visit the bar at any time, then I suggest to disable challenging the mysterious hermit when having mission, otherwise it may cause bugs.
Hope my opinions will help.

i found A bug too it is like the one heartflame put up except that it is when a Great Sea fights a darkwood the great sea will use it's mana drain
and the darkwood will use it lower attack so every attack you use will be 0 and the darkwood will always have 0 mana so the game like stops i hope you can fix this :)

6) Rather than pure randomization, it may be better to make high mages appear more often when black robes is trying to recruit the more powerful mages like Chilldream, Iceshade, etc in the white path recruitment events.
7) I do not know what the mages will gossip about "me" when Iceroot looks good on me, because I would never have chance to visit before entitled as high mage of white robes. Maybe it is better to allow to visit the "about you" during missions as if the case of training ground?
8) It may be equally good to keep curse for dark wood mages to level 10, just take out the "zero power" effects would be as good.

I found another bug: Every time I start the game with a Chaos Desert Mage, and I choose to use the default robe, I appear (sorry if I spell that wrong) with a Great Sea Mage default robe, also, in the dialogues, I appear with the robe of the last Mage that spoke. And please, lower the nesesary (sorry (again) if I spell that wrong)poison effect for Paralized.

Hi Shuwan,
Here is my final(probably) minor suggestions.
1) I felt that ice mages are now comparatively weak and chaos mages are comparatively strong. I suggest to lower the levels ice mages need to spend with Regenerate from 10 to 4 or 5, so that ice mages can use the level points to invest elsewhere. Besides, ice mages will need 200 mana now to freeze chaos desert mages in this system now, which means ice mages will run out of mana very soon. So maybe it is better to set it such that FA will require mana = 80 + opponent spell mana/2, or any other cheaper versions;
2) It looks to me that it would be significantly better if chao desert's decrease special bolts can only decrease 2 per sps bolts. 3 per bolts means that if player has invested in LA first and computer has invested in HA first(or vice versa), then after 3rd round great sea and ice mages will be down to 15 sp and after 4th round down to 0, and meanwhile poison water mages will never be able to use decrease special as well;
3) I suggest to change the level of decrease special bolts for Bloodster (the improved one) and sandtracker (the improved one) from 5 to 2 or 3 as well;
4) For poison water mages, I would suggest to swap the position between DS and Trigger poison (Just to increase chances against chaos mages and increase game difficulty against other mages). Also, I would suggest to move Poisoned death back to 40. (If at poison level 40 or above, a poison mage has basically won already anyway because he can always repeat poison wave + trigger until the other dies; at poison level 45 he cannot use poisoned death to speed up games in this way)
5) Now Magesblood is at level 96 when seen in the arena, which is a bit odd. We may add him back one HA bolt and one LA bolt to take him back to 100;

i got a bolt flying in the air in a circle 5 times and then it flies over my enemy's head. i hope it's a bug, i was a fire mage fighting a fire mage.

lots of typos!
Major change: All spells marked with Attack/Defend can only be used when you are in that turn. (You can use Counter High/Low in Defensive Turn, regardless which spell you cast)
changes: Decrease Special and Paralyzed requires 10 poison effects. Also fixed some poison mages who can reduce 50 special points.
changes: Poison Death requires 45 poison effect, needs 100 mana instead of 200.
changes: Flamier now appears in the Final battle. Treefire and Darkskin will not be in the final battle if you gave them the antidote.
Game freeze: I believe it is caused by too many bolts, as I limited the max number to 30. 10HD + 5HA + 5LA + 10DB is already 30 bolts. With any items you get will be more than 30! I have increased the max number of bolts from 30 to 40 this should solved the problem(might be laggy though).
Fixed: Ranking of mage bug.
Fixed: duplicated black robe mages(Sorry about last update. I am pretty sure I got it fixed this time :) Let me know if it isn't!!!)
Fixed: curse bug. Also I have decreased the maximum level of curse to 9. Enemy with 10 basic power still have 1 damage left, at least they can put up a fight!

The duplicated black robe mages in the final battle is not fixed, last time I played the final battle the were 2 Deadspirit, 2 Frezzebone and 2 Graveanger.

6) As mentioned by others, sometimes when the player is completely cursed by dark wood mages (effect level 10), they can still cast additional bolts with non-zero powers sometimes (but the more confusing part is, sometimes the additional bolts are with zero power though). That at least happens when I use Great Sea mage and cast DB; I believe all additional bolts are with power zero when it is player's offensive turn and non-zero when it is player's defensive turn; but if so, it looks to violate the rule of "curse";
7) I suggest to make poison wave a bit more expensive (maybe to 30 mana, same as mana leak), because poison wave + paralyze combo could be a bit too powerful if casted this cheap;
8) For the costume bug dlover mentioned, I actually see it in the older versions, but not this one anymore;
9) I would suggest to add Flamier to black robe mage in the final battle, I just so wanted to kill him the traitor!
10) I have found an interesting thing, I reached 11th in BOM and at the time Witchthorn is at 10th, but I could kill him in the Great Sea Orb event. After I actually did it the 10th changed to the magic master in Poison Water clan, but the mysterious hermit still asked me to challenge the dead mage. It only changed until I read the BOM again;
11) For the same event, actually I could have met Witchthorn in the recruitment task. But after I killed Shipsailor he still treated me as a stranger. Same thing happens for Graveanger event too I suppose;
12) I suppose TreeFire said he wanted to quit the black robes and sent a mage to ask for antidote, but he actually appeared in the final battle. I am not sure if I actually misunderstood it though.

The game is amazing, and you are as amazing as the game!
However, there are some more things I would like to add:
1) Whenever we "receive" a new title, the word "receive" is misspelled as "recieve";
2) When we meet Iceshade in the Main City of Poison Water Clan, and when I lose to Iceshade and ask the whoever(Greentwist?) to hand over poison, I think "Don't spoil the fun" should be used instead of "Don't spoilt the fun";
3) Computers can cast Counter Bolts (CH/CL) in their own defend turns if they choose to defend with Attack bolts, but we cannot do that. we can only cast CH/CL if we cast defend bolts as basic magic only;
4) Under the same reason as of Magesblood, I would suggest to turn down some poison water mage's Decrease Special ability to decrease 30sp only; just to unify the game. Also, the clan leader Corpsedusk for some reason casts it using 70 mana while another one casts it with 50 mana, so that may need to be united too; I actually suggests to unite all the characters so that they won't cast older versions of magics in the final released version;
5) I found a problem with "java scripts", when I used a Great Sea mage to fight the mysterious hermit. When the computer casted High attack, I used High Defend + LA + HA + DB, and then the game will freeze and ask me to stop a script. And after I stop it the game will not be able to be played anymore. I hope it is only my problem; (same thing happened again when I fought with Treefire in the final battle, HD + HA + LA + DB = stop script)

Thanks for all the bug reports! Lots of bug... And took me a while to solve all of them.
MagesBlood, the mage you are supposed to lose to.
After some consideration I'll keep him as it is. I have corrected his "Blood Bath" magic from 50 to 30 blood. As he triggers two events(1.the old healer saving you, 2.your revenge or learn magic from him after the young mage contest), he needs to stay undefeatable :) You can always kill him after that!
Side quests related to White/Black robe mages
Right now only a few side quests features White/Black robe mages. I agree we should have more side quests which will affect the final battle. However I ran out of mages for side quest! (If you realized, all of the mages have appeared in part of the story, some might die in the process, I have to be careful they don't appear in another quest). I could add new mages but that means more testing and more mage drawings etc. I'll keep this suggestion in mind for next game though.
dlover: I can't seem to find the costume bug you mentioned, it works fine on my game. I have corrected the text though. If anyone experienced the same problem let me know.

It won't be anytime soon, I have not start working on it. Bom2 really takes a long time to make, we'll see how popular this version is and plan out bom3 (perhaps less text and more graphics!)

Yep, I think that dlover is right. Anyway, I found this bug, everytime I see the Black Robe Mages list in the final battle, there's at least 1 mage called like another 1. For example: 2 Owleye, 2 Graveanger, 2 Deadspirit, etc. Can you fix that, please?

dlover is right on both counts, if I am not mistaken. By the time you actually run across an Ice Mage powerful enough to know Freeze Defend, you should have put enough points into HP as to not be destroyed in one hit. The most that one can throw at you is 20 bolts (10 base with 5 additional high and low) with a maximum of 10 power each (discounting combined bolts, which may present a larger problem, but still not a one-hit K.O., in most scenarios.). You are certain to have more than that if you have any hope of beating the game.

@ liam: Have you tried visiting every location in great sea? I thought it was the arena you have to go to.
@ steppen: If you put enough points into hp, then they won't kill you in one hit, and silence will stop them from using it.

palusabel, there's a problem with what you're saying, if you put all your skillpoints in into HA, LA, mana, hitpoints, increase special and silence, if you fight against an Ice Land Mage, and he uses freeze defend, you will get kill in 1 hit

hello im rank 1 on book of mages and beaten mysterious hermit and im on final battle and i fought through the mages and the last 1 said i must inform white mage then i went back to great sea area and i cant leve great sea and i cant join back in the great sea hall and i cant do anything that takes a month because it says i must go to great sea so there prob a bug in the bit

Well, for the next installment (I hope there will be one!), there could be a post-plot "challenge" mode or something; an array of beefed up mages that could give even the Great Mage a run for his (or perhaps her, but the gender is questionable) money (a more complex item/equipment system would be nice, too, if I'm not asking for too much already). I, for one, am disappointed in the "abrupt" end to the game. I am not ashamed to say that I've churned more than five hours of gameplay into BoM:TDT. By the way, I never had any problem defeating the Top Ten Mages. It takes a little bit to set up, but I have a build that is simply unbeatable, if I may say so. Start your story in the Darkwood clan, the blood-based one. From there, put all of your points into HA and LA bolts until maxed. Then increase your mana and hitpoints. For your first and second Special Magicks, choose Additional HA and LA bolts. For your Clan Magicks, choose Increase Special and Silence. The path you follow doesn't really matter. Using this setup, I've done all three paths. Now, when you go to battle, start with LA bolts. Enemy will likely counter with LA bolts, but may resort to LD bolts. Next turn, use HA bolts. By the time the next turn rolls around, you are able to use IS. Use it until third or fourth Special Magicks become available, which could be power or combined or both. I chose the last option. Cast Silence, which disables your opponent from using any of their Special or Clan spells. Thus, even with maxed out bolts, you can shove past them and deal Cursed bolts, reducing their offensive capability to zero. Just rain death upon them and watch as they futilely resist. With this method, the only way to lose is to mash the Rest button.

Ah, good point. That brings up an interesting double standard. Why, when you're the Great Mage on neutral path, can the other neutral mages challenge you for your title, despite them being of various ranks? I thought only the rank 2 mage could challenge the rank 1 mage, or at least that's how it goes for you.
Though sometimes, only Shiver Horror will fight you, and he is rank 2... depends on how good you are. Shiver Horror is a scary strong fight, I always enjoy fighting him.

Actually quite a lot of mages would wish to challenge the great mage, it would set them as number one in the book of mages if they won, and make them the next great mage when the last dies. I've actually been looking for a way to challenge the great mage before you beat the black robes.
Though you do have a point, there wouldn't be much to do after becoming the great mage. It would just be something you can do afterwards to try and improve your score, I guess.

I disagree. What would they do? Once you've won the great mage election, you would have fought every mage at their finest. There is simply no one stronger than the neutral mages, or Bloodster, or whoever your penultimate bosses are. You'd just wander the world dominating everything that you've already proven yourself to- and just who in their right mind would challenge the Great Mage/Black Mage, anyways?

I get what you mean by that, you want new groups with new skills, but holy and demonic could already be seen as the black robes and white robes. But still, you're right, new groups would be nice, even though it would be kond of like "where did those new groups pop up from? they weren't in the first game!"
Oh, and I played through with my character named after the current great mage when you start,no one notices. I understand it may be a bit difficult or time consuming, but maybe there could be a system that stops you from using a name that's already used for an NPC?

Thanks for giving us this information. I have encountered something similar before, using a poison water mage:
After young mage contest, I challenged in the arena until in position 11th, then I wanted to go back to learn the remaining magics (I only had 3 higher level and 2 clans), but it happened that magic master of poison water mage at that time, is 10th in book of mage! So I needed to win him in order to learn the remaining magics!
Well he is not impossible to beat, but I just got frustrated and started a new game. =.=

Chilldream's status as an all powerful mage is well earned... he's the only mage in the world that has two high attacks. He can shoot 20 bolts per round! O.O
I'm almost certain that's a glitch. But I respect him even more now.

I found a couple of bugs.
1. When I first loaded the game, I chose a class, and it straight away said I could choose my costume for winning.
2. Whenever I enter a conversation, my costume is the same as the last person to speak, and when I enter battle, it chooses a random costume for me. On my last play-through, every battle I was a sea mage, instead of chaos desert.

Some more suggestions and bugs:
1) Chaos Desert mage can cast "TWice" while with only 10 sp points, either by human players or computers;
2) Freeze Defend for ice mages sometimes take away mana twice for computers, though I don't know if that happens to human players too;
3) When ranked 11th in the book of mage, the people in arena already won't fight and said that I am already top 10 mages;
4) Apart from Book of White Magic, I also have not seen any use of the Great Sea Orb or Chaos Desert Orb; I can neither see an increase of attacking bolts nor that of defending bolts; Also, is there anything like "Book of Dark Magic"?
5) When gossiping in bars, I think "unknown mage" is misspelled?
6) I have been playing all mages to invincible and great mage in white path, except Poison Water mages. I just cannot use it to fight Burnstorm of Burning Hill. The computer can do IS, then IS again, then RE, then a Combined + Mana Attack + Attack Power combo, making a 500 power bolt. I just cannot beat it. Can anyone beat Burnstorm with Poison Water mages?

Alucinor the Dark Wood mage is now the Neutral Great Mage of everything. Woot. A couple of notes about neutrality:
+ Selecting not to go to the great mage election seems to make the game endless.
+ Is the Chaos Orb supposed to increase Basic Power by 1, or High Attack and Low Attack by 1? It increases power, but the description is strange.
+ Occasionally, bolts will ignore my curse status. These seem to be additional low attacking bolts, but it's strange. I think this occurred with the following set up: An Ice Land mage had 10 curse on them. I used high combo bolt (+low attack, +high attack, +curse). They responded with high defense (+high defense? +low attack). The low attacks did 10 damage each. Wasn't a problem, because I'm practically immortal, but still.

Found a glitch. If you're in Great Sea when the final battle takes place, and you chose to kill the leaders as a neutral mage, eventually someone will decide to run to the hall. So you have to travel to Great Sea. But you're already in Great Sea, and visiting everything had no effect. Basically, I was inches away from finishing the game, but they wouldn't let me. Sucks.

Blah, my Poison Water mage was no match for Bloodster... time to roll up another one! I simply love this game series, and can't wait to see how you improve it even further. You guys have made a simple and fluid game system - the mere basic high and low attacks work together to create one hell of a tactical game in a minimal amount of space. I love the Book of Mages!

Hi, I have found a few "may-be-bugs" in the game
First, when i cast low attack and the computer uses low defend, and when i mouse over to the computer, it displays the move as "high defend"; the same thing happens when I cast low defend;
Second, i have found that sometimes the computer can cast HA / LA bolts when using freeze defend, i found that happening from Iceshade and the mysterious mage!
Third, whenever I use chaos mage, and whenever i go all out attacking while the computer has only 10 special points, it shall hit the computer 20 bolts right? But I found that the computer only displays damage up to 15 bolts; for example, when i use burn and when my power is 10, the last bolt it hits should deal 200 damage, given that i have 20 bolts more than the computer, but the last bolt will only display 150;
Fourth, I have never seen that I have gained any additional defensive bolts after receiving the book of white magic; I wonder if I misunderstood it;
Fifth, when I was playing sea water mage for the white path, and when it is the final war, I have killed two Graveangers!!! Please check it out:

Okay, what I do as burning hill against dark wood is to have the highest amount of bolts you can have, high damage optional, and simply outlast him with burning hill's high mana. Sometimes they get a few curses in from silence, but normally it doesn't do much, especially if you have the remove effect clan spell. I hope that helps you out. By the way, my above post was my first burning hill mage, and turns out they are the ones I do best with XD Also, good idea about the side quests involving the war, Zaorish.

really nice game :] only problem is one kinda of mage i forgot which one has a switch hp which can really get annoying if your at 500 and hes at 170 :] I still won though but only barely because of his poison bath thing

I found another thing a little strange. Whether you're white or black robe you are still doing side missions that aren't connected to the mages you are siding with. Why? If you are one of them, you should care about helping them, especially when the war is upon them, or at least have an option helping them. But there are no side missions connected to this. Now you're like: "Ok, I'm one of you...now leave me alone. Call me if something really important happens." It fells a little unnatural that you are taking part in the final battle, but you don't care about smaller battles that could have an influence in the final one.
Well thats it for now. I'll probably find some other odd things that doesn't bother anyone but me soon lol

I lose 5 specials when one bolt when they touch me, and they have 5 more than you when they have 40special.
But the game is very good, better than the other, the goal of the first was to burn the mana of the ennemy.

It is too hard to beat the chaos desert mages with poison water or with chaos desert mage too because they decrease your special and you can do nothing after, and their special come to 100 and yours to 0 ... I think you should decrease the special that they take away because they have more bolts than you ...
The only way to kill them is to have a lot of hp and to wait when they will have few mana to Counter Attack.

Very good, much better than the first one after you get used to the differences. My only problem so far is that sometimes the skill descriptions are sometimes hard to understand.

I know your point abut Mageblood, but it just looks weird to me if all other dark mages can only do 30hp while one "super" mage can do 50hp, but it really doesn't matter, yeah;
I think regenerate can be used in this sequence: freeze defend, freeze attack(or other defend), regenerate, freeze attack(or other defend) --- or something similar. It can be used for ice mages to get time to regenerate SP and mana needed to cast those mana-consuming spells; but i think you are right; after switching, it may stand no chance again chaos mages.
By the way, I just played Burning hill white mage, now burning hill becomes very very easy and comfortable to play with (get to invincible right after prison rescue), after the mana-shield change. Dunno if the change made it too powerful?

Yes You are supposed to lose to Mageblood. Even if you win(which shouldn't happen), the story goes on as if you lose.
I didn't let AI cast freeze effects + freeze attack for the same reason, they'll be too strong~ Defensive mages won't stand a chance against ice mages. I think if we swap freeze defend and regenerate. player won't be able to win some mages that reduce your special points(eg Chaos mages). I am not sure if regenerate seems useless though... Didn't really use it in my last few testings.

Thanks for the recognition too, I have forgotten one thing to add: Mageblood, the mage from dark wood who is impossible to win before young mage contest, is casting a blood bath of 50hp. Does it need to change back to 30hp?
Besides, the computer seem not knowing to cast freeze effects + freeze attack at the same time. Maybe it will be more fair to let them do so?
I don't know if ice mage is still too powerful or not (most of the time it is hard to beat an ice mage, to me, though far from impossible), but if it is, I would suggest to swap the positions of freeze defend and regenerate, in order to make ice mage wait longer to cast freeze defend.

Part 2: Good suggestion! But it will make some magic off balance as well and I'll need to retest everything :) So my solution is to make Mana Shield more powerful:Mana Shield absorbs 2 damage instead of 1.
Part 3: Good suggestion as well! At first when I was making the game it works similar to what you described, but it makes "clan special" skills less important, and makes "power" too important. This system is now used in Combined Power. If you use Combined Power, you'll realize it calculates power instead of bolts, like what you suggested in part 3!
Combined Power is best spell for Burning Hill mages, especially if you use it with Mana Attack(5th clan magic).
Quite a few suggested to allow players adjust the power/bolts to save mana as well, I agree it will make the game very interesting, but it will also make the already complicated gameplay even more complex :)

3. More tactical depth by following factors:
a) Higher weight on the "power"-attribute: The mana-costs for bolts raise with their number AND their power. But if a bolt with power 10 hits another bolt with power 1, they neutralize each other. I would like to see my mages cast their powerful bolts and blast through the tyni wannabe-spells of unexperienced opponents to hit them straight in their face.
How could it look like: If a bolt has a higher powervalue than another ATTACK-bolt, it burns through the weaker one and hits the target with the powerdifference.
Example: A bolt with power 8 hits on another bolt with power 5, the first bolt burns the second one away and hits the mage with a powerlevel of 3.
A similar principle could be used, when a bolt hits a DEFENSE-bolt, but the defensive bolts should be more effective. A stronger ATTACK-bolt would still burn the defensive bolt away, but would be less powerful. The remaining power of the bolt would be halved (rounded down).
Example: A bolt with power 8 hits a DEFENSE-bolt with power 5, burns it away and hits the mage. In this case, the remaining power of the bolt is only 1 (8 - 5 = 3; 3 / 2 = 1,5, rounded down to 1)
b) Mages should have the opportunity to regulate the number of bolts (attack and defence) AND the powerlevel of their bolts.
c) The powerlevel of bolts should NOT be visible. The ressource-management (lifepoints and mana) would be more tactical and not knowing, what the opponent is going to do would make the battles really thrilling.
So, these are my suggestions. I hope, i was able to explain my thoughts and intentions in an accurate manner.

Suggestion: DEFENDER should become the opportunity to cast a special ability by himself. In case of "Mana Shield" or similar powers, their effects should last until the definding mage becomes a defender AGAIN! Exception to that rule: In his attackphase, the mage may not cast a spell or the resistent power will vanish immediatly.
And yes, that implies the possibility NOT to attack (or regenerate mana)
Example: Dark Wood-Mage (DW) attacks (A), Burning Hill-Mage (BH) defends (D) first in this scenario:
1. DW(A): Silence - BH(D): Mana Shield
2. BH(A): Mana Shield (resistent) - DW(D) attacks with bolts
3. DW(A): Silence - BH(D) Mana Shield
and so on...
Please note, that this suggestion just could be functional if mana-costs and other factors of some powers would be changed.

Hi there!
First i have to apologize my bad english. Iam german and presently i have no opinion to write or speak english very often.
In my opinion, this game is really great and a worthy sequel to the first part of "Book of Mages". I played it with every kind of mage, played the evil paths, neutral paths and the good variant. I managed to became great mage with any one of my characters except the Burning Hill-guy, no matter if i played him evil or good.
So i decided to write down some suggestions i'd like to make without having read the other comments.
1. Assuming that the current state of the game would be the final release, the magic master of Dark Wood should be nerfed in some way. I was able to beat every NPC in game with any kind of character. The one big exception are my Burning Hill-characters, who had no chance against the powerful magic master of Dark Wood, a very effective defense-specialist with a huge amount of mana.
I have NOT tried, to use this combined power thing from the high magic set. I NEVER used this power with any of my characters so i think, this can and may not be the solution.
On the other hand, i do NOT think, that the Burning Hill-Clan is underpowered. As i mentioned above, all the other confrontations with NPC's have been doable.
Suggestion: magic masters amount of mana should be lowered drastically, at least 200 points, i would say.
2. I have a problem with some powers, which alternate the combatorder. For example: The ATTACKER uses the power "Silence" of the Dark Wood-Set. The result is, besides the essential effect of the power, that the DEFENDER is "violently" pushed into the attacker-position, without a chance to act as a defender. Thus, many powers got more useless or harder to use compared with others.

This game is very very amazing. I have played for about 20 times and I am focused on the game balance. Here is some of my opinions.
1) Sea water mages can never beat a dark wood mage who gets lots of mana (and if he uses Si and IS only), unless with very plentiful of blood. However, sea water mages need the most number of skill points to advance, which make it virtually impossible; Balancing may be needed (though I think they have no problems facing any others at all);
2) For ice water mages, I can cheat by first press HA/LA, then freeze effects then freeze defend; by then, I can hit the opponent with 10 bolts with freeze effects. By this, I can then kill any mages with instant kills easily; (not sure if it is fixed now, but with this cheat, it is easy to play ice mages)
3) For poison water mages, if I face another poison water mage, it easily happens that we just cast poison waves all the time (unless C is chosen). Maybe same for sea water mages' mana leak too. Honestly, if that happens, that would be boring;
4) I am not too used to poison water mages and dark wood mages, but they look to be alright; burning hill is really hard to play with, in my opinion;
5) Chaos desert mages are too strong!!

The game is great. I'm playing it 9th time and i think i'll do it again. There is only two thing missing:
Acknowledgement-I feel like i'm not really a part of this world. Like my deeds means nothing. the only ones aware of my position are mages from the arena. The rest are...not. I mean- i'm in top ten and everyone takes me as another random mage. Or when you are taking part in great mage election, when i'm number 1 in BoM. I already defeated most of the mages there. That doesn't mean they have to give up, but a little acknowledgement of this fact would be really nice :)

sorry enough you can win it, without even getting that there is a puzzle. but the puzzle is nice, it's worth trying to solve it, as becoming rich is not a real prob in this game (especially on easy-level, but hard isn't hard also, you'll just have to do the right things at the moneylender in the beginning, and there are not too much possibilities). have fun!

Shuwan: Won't correct upper articles, as they would have to be rewritten anyways. Will try to get together some simple tactical guide for the 6 kinds of mages, but will have to replay the game anyways to do that.
Burning Hill:
Since yesterday I know again, that best tactics with burning hill is: "increase special - increase special - mana attack" (if you play that correct, you should never need a mana shield). stage 3 against chaos can hurt a bit that way, but you survive it (and very important: your special survives it :-) and next hit kills him, especially if you managed to burn him a little on stage 2, what works most of the time. try to get mana attack in counter attack (especially against Ice Water, so that they can't freeze attack). And never forget: A fully trained Burning Hill, can't whether be killed by the stage 3 of chaos nor by even 2 freeze defends of Ice Water and much less by a "increase special - silence" of dark wood. You don't have to win any fight with 0 damage. What I say here goes only for a good to fully trained mage. Before you play Burning Hill like you would play anybody else (attack!!!!!!). :-)

I am thinking of setting up a page for book of mages guides/walk-through, we have quite a few nice strategies here, and this thread is getting too long!
Great Sea mage is best in defense. Only experienced players like you know how to use it well. Yes Great Sea mages are powerful but it is not an easy clan for beginners. Maybe I'll increase the points required for Mana leak(first magic) from 10 to 20.
Also I think I'll Increase mana required to cast Burn(Chaos) from 20 to 50.
I can only make changes perhaps next week. Too bad the project is not anything like bom...

Shuwan: Sorry, when I read my articles written down here, I always find them containing lots of junk. In particular case the success of the Sea-Water-tactics Mana Leak - Counterattack - Mana Leak - Counterattack doesn't really depend on them being able to manipulate mana, but if they answer Mana Leak with an attack. If yes, they are dead.
This very strong tactics Sea Water has additional to his strong absorbe message, making him practically undefeatable, when played by an educated player like me. :-) So that should be correct now!

Shuwan: To make a long story short: He wins with ease against ice water and other sea water mages by the upper tactics, and for the others absorbe damage easily does the task. i never needed absorbe and add to life to win a black sea water game.
But the inbalance according sea water probably does not matter at all, as the computer opps of them absolutely lack aggressivity. It's just: The black win for them is much too easy (same goes for chaos).
Most interesting i found winning the black games for Dark Wood and Burning Hill. That's about the difficulty level i can handle. :-)

Shuwan: If you take away burn from chaos, you'll also have to power down sea water. Not that the computer opps of them are a problem, but he is a kind of negative chaos. As he is much stronger in counterattack than in attack, he wins with ease against all mages, that can't either decrease their special nor increase their own special, just by mana leak - counter attack - mana leak - counter attack ... aso. (because of the additional def bolts). But anyways: The progress in balancing the characters is absolutely sufficient(compared with bom1). If you leave everything like it is, it's still a great game!

Thanks michl7 for pointing that out. I'll think of how to improve poison water and ice land mages(Really busy this week with another project, don't have time to make changes for bom2!).
My initial idea for poison water mages was that with high level POISON WAVE(second clan special skill), you can probably win most battles. As for ice land mages, I think I'll reduce mana required to cast FREEZE ATTACK by half, and reduce FREEZED DEATH from 200 to 125.

this was nonsense: you of course get to the special for freeze defense, but how to get to the third one? You need 3 to kill Bloodster, cause with normal attacks, you get only through on stage 2, and even there not without losing lots of special. from stage 3 on, only freeze attack/defense prevents dead.

Shuwan: Sorry that I comment on something you wrote on 31-12-2009, but:
Against very strong chaos mages the decrease special of poison is only a theoretical chance, because they always kill your special before you get a chance to do this.
Same goes for ice water and Freeze Defense (Freeze Attack costs lots too much mana and therefore isn't usable more than 1 or 2 times in a fight, but you would need it more often). You never get to the special you need for Freeze Defense. A good sample, that chaos is really overpowered is the fight against Bloodster, when playing the black side. I really tried it numerous times, but could not win it with Poison and Ice Water. With the others it's no prob at all.

hello the max level of mana and hp is mana 210 and hp 1070 you can get that if you are a white robe and you need go travel to the great sea,DONT GO! train in mana cave how long you whant and then you can travel to great sea for the final battle!

So I only value games with the upper endresults as won and only, if the are white or black. The White Game was won with all 6 kinds of mages. The Black Game I could only win with Chaos, Burning Hill, Dark Wood and Sea Water. With Poison Water and Ice Water I couldn't beat Bloodster in one of the most important fights of a black game. :-)
And now I'll drop a look on Shuwan's tip. Btw.: Did anyone already tell you, that your game is incredibly good?

shruiken9: i think chaos is easier (actually the easiest). ice water actually only has freeze defense, but that does no more than 140 damage at a time. a fully trained chaos in a later state of the fight can easily make 600 or more damage. additionally the special bolts of chaos are much better. killing active is imo much worse for the opponent than the freeze effect (who to hell needs defense here? :-)).

With dark wood it also helps very much to bring opponents curse level to 10. He can't hit you then anymore (not really, combined attacks against you seem still to work, but with very low strength, but most attacks cause damage 0.
And to get in that situation use ...., ok i told you already. :-)

... i meant: chose an attack opponent can't turn.... if you find one like that, you don't need defense and can put those 18 additional points (9 for no hd and 9 for no ld) in life and mana, so that you can stand 1 mana attack of #3 and have still mana left, after you have emptied out his 1100 mana by your attacks and his own mana shield.
believe me: there are no problems a white robe dark wood can't solve easily.

valentyne: i never beat corruptor in the beginning so far (and don't even want it: 2 skillpoints for winning instead of 16 sp for losing (6 learning from oldhealer, who saves you after loss and 10 from corruptor after you won young mage contest and give him the right answer. :-)
but since yesterday i know, there is a way as black robe to become great mage (and stay it until a natural death), #1 in the ranking, and marching in as the leader of black robes, killing all the white robes with your own hands. That's quite easy with Chaos and should be manageable at least with Burning Hill and Dark Wood also (i think it's also possible with poison, but i played it wrong, and also for the others).
winning for the white side as great mage, #1 and reputation god is a lamer, if you once know how to do it. I recently described a way to do that for all races. with dark wood it is especially easy, if you have maxed out values and use the "Increase Special - Increase Special - Silent until Death"-Method. #3 (Burning Hill) is tough for most characters (you'll have probably to retry the fight 2 or 3 times). in many cases, it depends, which first move you make. begin with a first attack, opponent can't turn (eg. counter ah with dh and ah afterwards) and train your character to max fight and possible max of life and mana. then use the "Increase Special - Increase Special - Silence until Death"-method. as a simple rule: against weaker opponents, it's often better to only Increase Special once to kill them, but against the stronger ones, you need 2 of those. if they hit you in the process, it doesn't matter, as long the hit doesn't kill you. did that help?

Umm,hi,me again.I just finished with the Dark Wood mage that I killed Corruptor with.I won the war as White Mage,then lost to BurningStorm.(or whatever his name is)I got the ending where you are EVIL and rule as the Great Mage,and then are assassinated.This really hurt me,as I wanted to get the best ending possible for a 50-something to 2 win/loss record holder like me.

The story of "chaos, neutral, intention bad" is quickly told. you win easily (198 skillpoints and a real lot of items).
i killed everyone, i got a chance to, but still couldn't get below "demon spawn" (satan probably only can be reached, when loyal to black robes, but
then it should be named dummy :-)).
as i think, that you can easily win the betrayer game with chaos and bad intention, i'll give it a new try to become satan and great mage all in one.

there is still some challenge for me in the game. :-)
played poison, black robe, betrayer (means I'm curing myself with the antidote), but could only collect 176 skill points.
that was not enough to beat up #3 (lost twice, once for the ranking and once at great mage election).
i think you can't hinder #3 from hitting you once with mana attack with poison (with dark wood he is always an occasion :-)) and you just can't pile up enough live with only 176 points.
i surely did something wrong, as i played as bad as possible but only reached reputation "demon spawn". Incredibly nice game anyways!

Now tried out neutral (with intention good) as a Dark Wood (actually my favorite clan, cause "increase special - increase special - Silence until death" is quite a weapon (only, if increase special is maxed out of course)).
Very funny to play, easy to win and reached a level > 200 (do not always reach that as a white robe).

i played through the "easier" variant with Ice Fire and must say, that i had hoped you had chosen another way to make it easier.
Now the some good fights you had are also boring. I wouldn't have changed the ai of the opponents to dumber, but would have raised the number of events, so that someone can get more skill points.

Forget EventTrigger only triggering fights, as you have this at arena anyways. EventTrigger triggers more events and some has to find out, how much EventTrigger is still healthy. :-)

As you wanted suggestions: What about difficulty levels?
Eg. easy (like it is now), normal (like it was before) and hard (even less events than on normal, but an additional levelable value EventTrigger. This EventTrigger will only trigger fights, so that you have to balance fight values and EventTrigger-value for getting +2 skill-points as often as possible (instead of +1 in Mana Cave). these fights should be tough, but winable for someone having caught the optimal line).

hi michI7, thanks for your feedback and a nice walk-through. The game is modified to be easier now, cause the game is complex and some testers kept losing and got frustrated. If I were to make a 3rd version, I'll remember to change the combat to a much easier system!
Anyway I fixed the "final battle" bug, now you must travel to Great Sea when the time comes.

Today I found out, what the real max level of a mage in this game is: It is 321 (max level of live and mana is 100).
How I found out that? When you reach #1 in ranking by a time, where you can travel to home clan, before the war starts (probably every clan except sea water does the trick?!), the war waits until you have maxed out live and mana in mana cave. after that you travel do sea water and finish the game. :-)
Don't know whether that happens by intention or if it is a bug. Btw.: In the end fight I killed Witchthorn twice, that probably shouldn't happen?!

I played and won the game with all 6 kinds of mages. That's the good news, as this wasn't possible in version 1.
The not so good news is, that for all 6 kinds of mages the same offensive and relatively simple strategy wins (as described recently for chaos mages, works for all the others too, with the slight difference that you probably choose to have a defense when playing those).
But the game is real fun anyways and it takes longer as in v1 to correctly time your actions.
If there will probably be a chapter 3 some day and the increase in complexity stays as from v1 to v2, then i'll problably be too dumb for v3. it'll be worth a trial then.

i just forgot: always bring life and mana up with the others. when improved all skills you wanted to, you also raise life and mana 1 level.
i normally have ~200 life and ~500 mana at the time fighting values are maxed out. from this position now 10 mana moves and than live - mana parallely.

noah6822: chaos is quite easy to play, as he doesn't need defense (he has twice).
i didn't have any problems to win (#1 in ranking and great mage) by the following:
training:
---------
- level up ha, la to max together with life and mana also to 10
as high level magic take ha, la, ap and c (in this order)
get clan special from the left to the right (in this order)
- at (10 - 10 - 10 - 10) in (ha, la, life, mana) switch to bring up ha, la additional bolts and ap to the maximum and also the damage (right from mana) and max out the levelable clan specials
- when you have maxed out everything on fighting values except hd and ld (they are still at 1 and stay there!) you train 10 points only in mana and then parallely mana and life (you need lots of those to beat up #3, cause otherwise his mana shield is crucial for you in the end).
missions, ranking fights etc.:
------------------------------
chose your side and play your character with some consequence (good or bad). forget being in the black robes, chose white (if you try to become great mage as black robe, they'll trigger the poison), and i don't think that you can get as many skillpoints otherwise than from missions when playing neutral, but didn't try this. when you have no missions, improve your ranking.
And at last i want to say 5 words: "Don't forget to have fun." :-)

Hi mmmaaatttsss, I checked the game and poison is working fine. Make sure the version you see at the main page is latest version 1.22. Also, if enemy and you both are poisoned, the poison effects are cancelled out(for example if you are poisoned with 5 and opponent with 3, next round it becomes you 2 and opponent 0). If it still doesn't work let me know, I figure out the problem.

MichL7 thanks for the bug report. I got it fixed. Now you cannot get in Book of Mages until you have participated in the Young Mage Contest. Also there is no one to challenge until you have reached level 20.
noah6822, glad you like the game :) I double checked the reduce special effect of Chaos Desert, it works fine. The bolt must hit the enemy to reduce special. Try level up the skill so you can reduce more special.

i was number 75 in the ranking before young mage contest even started. after having won it, i was reset to number 93. i don't think the game should do that!

aha, that's why i couldn't figure out, what burn actually does. :-)
The only bug i meanwhile found, is well known here, as i read above. when i once tried to list history, the program disappeared forever. I think, that much worse quality of software than this one is being sold. For a free game the quality already is world class.

Just uploaded an update, version 1.20
The History function is still not 100% ready, there are some bugs with the history. The idea is to allow players to paste their history for other people to view.
Skill Changes:
Dark Woods mages' spell "remove effect" requires 60 mana instead of 20 mana.
Chaos Desert mages' spell "remove effect" minus blood(2xeffect level).
Increase starting points from 3 to 10(to make the game easier).
If both mages have poison effect on them, the effect are cancel off(similar to mana burn).
reduce points required to level up Poison from 30 to 20.
reduce points required to level up Mana burn(Great Sea) from 20 to 10.
Improve Building hit detection.
The ? mark that explains how to use magics during battle can be closed.
Bugs:
Fixed "rank 2nd in book of mages, challenge Chaos Desert clan leader instead of mission"

There is a problem with the game: I'm black robe, and number 2 in the book of mages. I got a quest when I have to talk to the leader of Chaos Desert (number 1 in the book), and when I try to talk to him I challenge him to ranking fight. After I win I try to talk again but he's talking his standard stuff about "atacking, atacking, atacking...", and I can't finish that quest...

I found a glich when you are second on the book of mages ranking and you go to Battelbeard (blackrobe quest) after you have killed the three intrudors at the prison to claim your reward,you automatically challange Battelbeard to fight.Nothing wrong with that but if you talk to him again he is just going to tell you about clan special magic and so on,so you can't continue with the game anymore.Please fix that

The game is great....(WAY better than Book of Mages 1) but too confusing! No offense, but the first one was simple and- easy? I am totaly lost and i have no idea how to use the special magic, or the fancy attacks where you can do hight attacks and low attacks at once. But i shouldn't be so negative. Book of Mages 2 is... AWESOME!
Good parts about it:
-You can choose what your character looks like (YES!)
-You can choose your name! (No, offense, i was etting tired of being called Wilson after a while)
-you can do quests
-You have more health, stats, whatever... (It was getting kind of annoying in book of Mages 1 when you had to go into the mana cave 6 times to get one training point)
-The places look different (every siingle clan in Book of Mages 1 looked the same, exept the background had different colors...)
-And, its just plain better!
Thanks for making the game! (I practically waited a whole year for the new one to come out!)

To acquire the 'SATAN' reputation easily, simply choose Burning Hill or Chaos Desert (Chaos Desert is the BEST) and play your game accordingly. Remember you don't have to learn twice. Just learn ONLY LA,HA,C and clan Additional 5 HA LA and also Burning...With these 2 skills you can defeat anyone except 3rd place (Burnstorm of Burning Hill),but you can also beat him easily with 15 power or so and 400hp+
Just follow the ordinary black robes quests which is MUCH MORE EASIER than whiterobes since you only have to defeat the stupid 'main city' and 'wilderness' goers. Remember to also visit dark alleys for free joiner.Even Lighttouch from Iceland can be found at dark alley, who will refuse and be easily beaten.
Another tips is to go to every clan and visit their main city, dark alley and wilderness to have advantages over all their events. Remember most of the times being good gives you much more skill points than bad.So you can be good for a while since they have no effect on your final reputation,SATAN.
Shall you make it to the CROSSROAD easily, choose not to be a servant to POISON WATER stupid magi. Free yourself from the poison AND not to drink any potions again. Simply defeat BLOODSTER, PONDANGER and gangs and you are the GREAT MAGE,black.
Finally, defeat the White Robes like pieces of cake. Also bully Shiverfrost and Darklove while depleting Burnstorm's mana by sheer power or surviving his Combined Attack once,since after his first combined attack he will have NO mana left even if your power is 10 ONLY.
Hope my suggestion is detailed enough, since you played 15 games or so.

i think this is a very good game, and i like that the sequel starts only a few years after the first one, gives the impression that if you beat this game, you are straining to beat yourself in the sequel. decent game play, and the many clan choices give it excelent replay value, i am on my 15th play through it ^_^. my only 2 big suggestions is making a multiplayer option, and making the game longer. if there was even 5 years more of gameplay, it would really help with the election. i am also putting a shoutout there, if anyone can tell me how to go pure evil as a black robe, and win, i would apreciate it.

Huh?35 years for a neutral mage?You can actually change from neutral from black robe by losing to Bloodster.
The game is easy and balanced enough, I think, except for poison water and sometime dark wood.

To shadow:To win the final battle of Book of Mages
1)Dark Fire Mage will not be a problem, he is too weak with 350 hp.
2)You can beat Burnstorm by having more than 300-400hp and 13-15 power and Ring of All Rings. Just attack him and let him use mana shield.When he attacks with 600 damage, put up a combined attack so you will have bout 200hp left.(For example you are poison water,13 power and 350hp, you will have 10hp left)Then attack him again and he will have no mana left.It's even easier for Great Sea with Ring as you can simply absorb and finish him.
3)Shiverfrost NEVER uses freeze, what an easy fight.But he do use REGENERATE so do have more than 13 power and use combine attack to finish him off.
Remember you should have 450hp or higher at this time.
For the election, you should have good relationship with the GOOD mages. For example you can have 4 friends in the prison raid mission who will vote for you.For others like Burnghost will surely vote for you.
Side tips: The election is actually easier than recruiting. For White Robes , there's a good way to ensure you can get the 'SALESMAN' Title.
The way is to explore main city,dark alley and wilderness to unlock all the events in 6 clans.You will make many friends there.(You might lose to Iceshade but it's okay)And by the time you get the mission, simply venture to Ice Water(Lighttouch,Chilldream,etc), Chaos Desert(Oldhealer), Sea Water(Waterrip) and Burning Hill(Spellsoak) to recruit them.CHEERS! You recruit them easily after defeating the Black Robe recruiter.MAKE SURE you can win them, especially the Dark Fires

I also suggest implementing 'improving' of Enemies so the final battle of Balck and White Robes will not be too boring/easy.
PS:The only improving characters I can see are the 6 rival mages of the player.(soundinghorn,rainie,bloodster,etc)

Me too sometimes think there should be a number of effects removed for these skills.As poison water have to put A LOT of points into their skills only to be put to waste.I actually suggest scaling some of the 1-point-skills or reduce the scaling levels (for example poison waterbolts)so they can easily cope for the missing points.
But personally I don't like this game to be COMPLETELY balanced anyway.=)

Got a weird bug,every time i try to start book of mages 2 the game goes a bit haywire and takes my straight into a battle where nothing works.

Two suggestions:
- Sea water mages skills require too many skill points to be upgraded (52 in total). They should be easier to improve (lower skill points cost). Comparatively, burning hill mages only have to spend 23 skill points on their special abilities which let them become very efficient early in the game.
- The burning hill remove effects ability is in my opinion unbalanced: it allows burning hill mages to annihilate ennemy threats too easily (it's particularly annoying for poison water mages, since their poison effect is their main attack). In my opinion, the cost of this skill should be increased (mana? special points? mana and special points?).

Well,I think every clan is suitable for beginners.You just need to observe and find out tactics to win =D But I didn't mean to make all clans almost same.I personally love Book of Mages just because it's imbalanced lol.
Especially liked the Chaotic Period's max skill level part =).
Now the Clan Magic is playing the same role instead of basic magic.

It would be nice if that (?) didn't appear open at the start of every battle. By the time the player is in the young mage contest they should already know what a low attack is even if they skipped the tutorial. A simple fix would be after the tutorial, keep it minimised in the corner of the screen but tell the player that it's there if they skipped the tut instead of the normal "stop wasting my time" comment.
On the topic of speech there are alot of minor errors but the most strange is when the town crier announces that dark/white robes are seeking recruits and the mages "have to" choose a side. Yet he immediately says that the player doesn't have to. This could all be much smoother if he says, "Both Dark and White robes have been spotted forcing conscription, though some mages have attempted to resist."
Considering just how many typos are in the dialogue I'm just wondering when you are going to get a proof reader.
Also it's nice to know that events aren't random but during gameplay there is no way to tell, just adding in the text that the alleys are empty "at present" would solve this.

2) the events are spread over different locations. Try traveling to other clans and explore dark alleys. it's not random so you can write down where you have encountered events if you want :)
3) Bar and Marketplaces is for you to hear some gossips. Mages don't need to buy fruits or meat :)
4) I'll change the poison effect to the same as mana waves(if both are on poison effect, it cancels out, for example if you are poisoned with 5 and opponent with 3, next round it becomes you 2 and opponent 0)

Problems with the game:
1. When moving the mouse over the edge of any building it will rapidly grow and shrink not knowing if it is selected or not.
2.There is no sign that clicking on dark alleys actually does anything. I beat the game and I still don't know if anything that happens in there is random or scripted.
3. Why is it called a marketplace if you can't buy or sell any items?
4. When two poison mages fight and you use poison wave, they will also use poison wave and eventually the mage with less health and max poison damage will always lose without putting up a fight.

I think the game is awesome but sometimes when exploring you just can't find any events at all especially when looking in the wilderness. Also i wish the game was longer because i don't have enough time to make my skills super good. I f they make a 3rd book of mages they should have control over more than just fire and water. But overall it is probally my favourite internet game.

I'll look into improving dark wood mages for early game. I made chaos desert mages slightly easier because I intended to mark it for beginners. However now I am thinking if it is still necessary to have a clan for beginner.

Well, I am a very experienced player in book of mages:The Chaotic Period
This sequel is great....The clans are further balanced (no more 100% win with chaos->poison or ice->red or dark fire 4 low attack and defense,etc) and unique abilities became more important
By the way, there are still a few flaws.I can say that life is hard for darkwood mages.They need a lot of blood, but you never get as many as NPCs until level 120 or higher.However, the minus power bolts combined with silence is great.=D
While great sea and ice land are far more weaker here,the chaos desert remains imbalanced.I can easily get 'God' and 'Satan' with the burning( my max record was 15power x15=225 per bolt[you can get even higher with more items gathered though], don't forget the additional 10 attack bolts which can only be blocked by great sea too).Once you get hit by this 30 special power is lost.Your bolts number will decrease.This means one hit from chaos and you are dead.
In overall this sequel requires less wits but is more entertaining.I really love this game.Keep it up!

2) if the offensive bolts hit each other instead of hitting defensive bolts, it will make the defensive bolts useless, and it will be a disadvantage for clans stronger in defensive bolts such as Great Sea Clans.

Another change i would like to see is when Counter-Attacking or attacking in general, Have the offensive bolts hit each other instead of them passing thru to hit the devensive bolts. IE Mage 1 has 10 HA bolts and 5 HD bolts out. If i attack with 12 HA bolts 5 are taken from the HD bolts while damage is still dealt because there were 3 HA bolts that could not be stopped.

Great Game Really enjoyed the story. One thing i think could be changed would be when you are about to challenge someone. I think that you should be able to do some last minute cramming in the training area before they make you go to the arena

It's easy to win the young mage contest if you focus on three things:
1. Low and high attacking bolts
2. The second level magics (from the magic master) for additional low and high attacking bolts
3. Mana
I have found that you can win with any clan if you focus on these things. You don't need to worry about health since you will have enough bolts to avoid getting damaged and your enemies won't have damaging special abilities yet. You don't need defensive bolts because you can defend with your attacking bolts at this point without repercussions. Also, clan abilities are too costly to invest in this early for the most part. There are very few clan abilities that will be more useful at this point than more bolts or mana.

caprindo: I have pushed back the mission by almost 1 year. It should be easier now. Black Robe missions was hard, I have pushed back most of the late game missions.
sephimoth: Book of mages 1 was very straight forward, and there are some flaws in the battle design, some clans can never win another clan. Book of mages2 is much more complex and the specials are much more important than book of mages1. Player can play with different styles. Some specials will allow you to fire additional bolts.

I'd say the only problem I had with it is that the balance felt off. In the previous game each clan would have their own level of attack and defense. In this game they all have the same. (e.g. if I shoot out 10 bolts, my opponent can send out 10.) This is fine in the beginning, but when you get towards the end of the game its annoying because if eventually comes down to who uses their special better.

I have fixed the bugs.
1) one of the endings of "guard the prison" mission gives positive instead of negative reputation. Also the final battle gives positive reputations. How did I miss all these!
2)I took out flamier in the final battle.
3) Thanks for the suggestion. I considered that before as well, but I think you actually benefits more by doing the missions, as most of the missions give a lot more skill points than training in mana cave, and allow player to earn titles and reputations. Also I think some players might accidentally "reject" the missions.
Neutral mages won't be bothered by these missions :)

First off, this game is awesome! I've played through it as white robes twice, neutral once, and today as black robes.
Three things: first off, black robes missions are slightly bugged. For about half of the missions, I gained a +reputation instead of a -reputation (this shifted me from very evil to evil several times). Even when I killed people in the mission, cruely, I gained a +reputation.
Secondly, I don't think as a black robe I should be fighting flamier at the last fight as he just turned traitor.
Lastly, a suggestion: I HATED having to stop what I was doing to goto X town for X mission. I think that I should have the option of not going or going at my leisure to a mission. I shouldn't be forced to drop everything I'm doing and waste 1-2 months going to a town to complete a mission I don't want to do.

1) You will get another skill point at the end of tutorial(after you train in Mana Cave), it might be a little confusing so I changed it to you get that skill point right after the tutorial fight.

Level 4 and level 5 higher magic only allows player to learn Extra damage power, extra defend power, Low countering Bolts, High countering Bolts or Combine Bolts
3.the only fight player can't win is against the assassin before young mage contest. I thought it will be interesting to let players have a taste of how powerful a level 100 mage is!

spent lot of time playing in different ways. some suggestions:
1. when fighting opponent, include his name or at least clan so it will be easier for player to decide on winning strategy
2. in one gameplay, a bug occurred when player didnt (or forgot to) learn higher magic skill at appropriate level and decided at next stage to learn it, in that case the total no. of higher magic skills is less than normal
3. first fight sequence in the game in which player has to lose feels redundant

I loved the first part and now the this part too *gg* played it a lot of times (and was sleepy in the morning at work :D). I don´t know if it´s a bug but ... when you join as a white robe and try to recruit others to join you and you´re on "good" with that mage, in the textfield he appears as "neutral", but joins you after you won the battle.

I was a burning hill mage and was in the young mage contest, but in one of the battles my atack power decreased from 2 to 1. The bug fixed itself after the battle and I won but its a bug anyway.
I think you changed some names but they are mixed with the old ones and that's making things really confusing.

1)I'll figure out how to have a reset skill points button, I am thinking of allowing reset of skill points only once in game by visiting certain people. One concern is learning clan special/higher level magics requires 1 month, if reset the skill points, player will need to spend a few months to relearn the skills.
2)Corruptor or Magesblood are supposed to defeat player(they are level 100 mages, it should be impossible for player to defeat them at that point of time). Player are supposed to be rescued by Oldhealer. Player can defeat Corruptor/Magesblood after the young mage contest(if you choose to revenge).

I had this problem too at the beginning of the game. My opponent only had 5 mana, but was able to cast attacks that cost 6 or 8 mana.

I have listed some things in the game that I think they should change:
1)A wonderful idea for the game it would be a reset skill points button.I had made some wrong decisions and I couldn't undo them.
2)I don't know if this is exacly a bug,but I think Corruptor is unbeatable.
3)If you promise the White Robe Mages to let their mage win in the Young Mage Content and you don't they'll ask you to give the Mana Orb.You have 2 choices [1) Give them the Mana Orb,2)You say something like:Mana Orb?What Mana Orb?...Something like this in the game the Power and the Orb are connecting...I mean it says WhatMana Orb.Sorry I can't explain it better.
4)When I was recruiting Black Robe Mages I had recruited Witchhorn and in the next turn I explored and the event with the battle of Witchhorn and Windsailor began,but Witchhorn was neutreal instead of Black Robe Mage.I think this happens to the other mages too.
5)While I had a battle with a Burning Hill mage and he had 5 mana and casted a High Attack which costed 6 mana.

Here is the corrected history:
Theoden fought with White Robes in the Great Sea War against Black Robes. The White Robes won the war. Theoden fought bravely in during the war and the new Great Mage promoted Theoden as the White Mage.
Because of Theoden's decision, many Black Robe Mages were saved from poison. Many were grateful and eventually left Black Robes. Soon Black Robe was disbanded.
The following years, the Great Mage worked closely with Theoden the White Mage, they finally brought peace and harmony to the world. In Year 235, the Great Mage passed away. Theoden was elected as the new Great Mage.

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but it seemed weird to me. I beat the game (for the millionth time) as a white robe mage. Whenever a choice came up in which I could do something good or evil, I chose the good path. In the final battle, I defeated the minimum number of black robes required to end the war. I then ended the war and spared the lives of the black robe leaders (to save the poisoned black robes). However, my history said that my choice led to the deaths of many black robes, and that I was corrupt and was eventually replaced by another white mage. This seems like an odd ending since I did everything possible to increase my fame and reputation.

Sorry my tutorial isn't clear to you, muukzor. I agree BOM2 is much more complex and therefore not so easy to pick up.
partion: For saving game between final battles, I decided not to because some people might wanted to load to earlier saved games to redistribute their skill points etc. If lose any battle, you can always click RETRY to fight the same battle again and try different strategy.
PS.I am considering making more save-game slots. If there are more than 1 save-game slot, then it might be possible to make a save-point in-between final battle.

I was an Sea mage and had an maximum mana leak effect of 16 in the description,but managed to do 24 mana leak effect during a battle.
The skill points training description glitch is also in one of special sea clan magic(additional defend I think)

I love this game. I have been spending hours with this game and on my 4th try I was the great mage,god and a legend. I found it pretty easy to win with the chaos desert mages becouse you dont need to buy any of the defense skills becouse if you attack with high attack and your enemy uses high defense and on the next round he uses high attack you can just use your twice ability and attack again. I really enjoyed this game but you should be abble to spend your skill points and save after the last battle. it really sucks when you lose to those 4 last neutral guys and must start from the start of the final fight anyways,this game is great i would give it 4,5/5

Well in the end battle you should end so you can replay it ... i died bcs a frost mage did Frost Defend and did 100 dmg each time and i did die , frost mages is too powerful.

i just found another glitch when i was in the burning hill clan and i tried to cast the mana shield but i didn't have enough mana but i pressed the mana shield button twice then the mana shield worked with too little mana.

andyandy: thanks for the suggestion :). When I designed the combat system I was thinking player can control amount of power to use too! However I find it too complicated(the combat system is already complex enough), player might find the whole game too confusing, so I took out this feature. Also I think it allows player to consider more when training: player has to decide whether to go for "finish enemy fast with high power" or "lower damage but reserve more mana to last longer in battle".

I think I found another bug. I fought Soundinghorn for the great mage election and killed him, after that I lost for Treefire. In the end Wetanger said that Treefire died and somebody was elected. But Wetanger also said that Soundinghorn just saved somebody's after I killed him.
There's another thing wrong for me, because if I'm not wrong, Treefire wasn't the elected great mage, It was Corpsedusk or Skullgrill, the ones who killed Battlebeard.

hi, thanks for another great game guys - i was (and still am) a big fan of Book of Mages 1.
One small request with this game (not a bug, just a request), I want to be able to control how much power I put into each attack (& defence):
i.e. if I have 10 points in Low Attack, I want to be able to attack with less than maximum power (e.g. 5 or 6 points etc). Also, if I have 10 points in High Defence, but the mage that I am fighting only has a few points in High Attack, I want to be able to spend less points on High Defence (e.g. 3 or 4 points etc) to conserve mana.
Hope this isn't too complicated. If it is, don't worry, its still a great game. Thanks again for making part 2 and have a happy new year!

For the "Ring of All Rings," The special increase is applied on the first round of combat (before the player moves) even though the normal +10 special increase (purposefully) doesn't go into effect. I'm guessing that this is a bug.

In the end I was appointed by soundighorn to be great mage and had a "god" reputation, but still it said that I was a tyrant and killed those who opposed the white robes.
I wonder if that is glitch or you haven't made a final for that yet.

It's a great game, but there's some small glitches.
I found that when you are training there's is some spells wich takes less skills points to train than what is showed on the description(the basic atacking bolts), also it appears that I win the young mage contest without participating.

benjitenji: I have double-checked Burn effect of burning hill mages to make sure it works. Also I tested to play and fight against Chaos desert mage. Yes they are not easy to fight against but with clan special spells such as Absorb Damage(great sea), Decrease Special(Poison), Freeze Attack or Defend(Ice), increase Special+Mana Attack(burning hill) and silence(dark wood), they can be defeated. I agree Burning Hill mages are weaker against chaos mages and requires more skills to win. Perhaps I'll mark Burning Hill as "difficult level".

I think I've found a bug or maybe just wrong text... I played as a white mage, made it to the very end, AND reached rank #1 mage. I won the last battle. After the battle, battlebeard supposedly melts away. But after I choose to spare the other two guy's lives, they say they are electing battlebeard as the new High Mage. First off...battlebeard just died...is his ghost gonna be the high mage? And as rank 1, shouldn't I be elected the new high mage instead of the white mage?
Incredibly fun game overall though.

chaos desert is unbelievebly overpowered, they swarm me with the attacks, i had five hundred health and they took out half my health, they get to attack too many times, and the stacking thing just makes them kill me in one turn, the only ones no class i tried could kill. tone down some of their abilities, because it was impossible for me to kill one.

Another bug I noticed is that the silence ability stops the player from using all abilities except for normal H and L attacks, but when used on an enemy, allows them to use some abilities such as blood bath, poison wave, mana drain wave (forgot the name), etc. This severely negates the effectiveness of this ability.

I think you should add a mute button in battles and more soundtracks,because this is quite a big game and it gets boring after a while(I'm talking about the music).
Also,if you stay neutreal and reach the great mage election and you win,you'll see something that doesn't makes sence if you let the white robe mage live he fights you back in the story ,at the end and if you kill the black robe mage you control the black robe mages.My point is that I was neutreal and I had a balanced reputation,but I appeared in the journal as evil.I think you should replace this story with something else.

Also, the mana leak thing seems to put the game to a standstill when two Great Sea mages fight eachother. If they both have the max mana leak on eachother and they both have no mana left, then the game just stops - you and the enemy mage can't perform any attacks!
I suggest either giving the spell a mana cost on yourself as well as the enemy every turn that it takes effect (so that if you run out of mana, the effect is turned off), or make it like the original game (so it's not like the poison effect).

I love this game, played it for hours today!
Two bugs I've noticed involve the Great Sea clan's special spells. I don't know the names of the spells (I just beat the game and am looking at the stats of the finished game. The two spells are that one that absorbs damage and heals you, and the other one that absorbs damage and adds it to your next attack). If when casting either of those two spells you don't have enough mana, they will still cast (and you would be able to cast anything else provided you had the mana).

Fixed Search for Black Robe Recruiters mission bug.
Fixed White Mage Election: Now if the vote is a tie, player wins instead of the other candidate.
Fixed Burn Effect for Burning Hill Mages.
Fixed increase Defense Power bug: the bug was with description only. This ability increases the defense power, and is best used with another power call "Combined"
Fixed Mana Shield ability, now it blocks clan effect properly. Note: Amount of Mana reduced equals to opponent's damage, only use it if you have huge amount of Mana!

One thing I noticed just now is that the Burning Hill mage's shield ability works fine for computer characters, just not for my character.

First of all, I'd like to say that this game is amazing! The new and improved gameplay is awesome! There were, however, some issues I noticed:
-Searching for dark robe recruiters doesn't work. It says "you found undefined and undefined" and than a dialogue box pops up where a black mage says to join, but you can't do anything.
-In the election to become the white mage, the final vote was 5-5-2, but a tie was not declared. Instead, the other mage won.
-The burnt effect for Burning Hill mages doesn't work
-The defense increase power doesn't work and says undefined in the description
-Burning Hill mage's shield ability isn't balenced. Hundreds of mana are lost in place of small amounts of HP.

fixed "incorrect player name" bug
Increase required Poison effect to cast Paralyze skill for Poison Water mages. The game will be harder for players playing Poison Water mages, however since there are many enemies in game that belongs to Poison Water, this adjustment can reduce the difficulty of the game.

The game is a dream.I enjoyed playing this game for hours.The storyline was superb.I think that you need to fix the paralyze skill of the poison clan(it makes them overpowered).
A bug that I noticed is when I was 'constructing' my mage I named him Mariouszful,but in the game the mage apperead as Theoden.
It would be a wonderful idea to add a kind of online battles.

Not a bad game . I like it more than the other one but I don't like that ... I put my name there at the begin of the game and well ... further in the game my name isn't the one i wrote . And ... I think that's all . I hope you'll fix that .
